NMB

IDEA & DESIGN

The NMB lamp by Truong Kha Tu is built on contrast. Its stem rises straight to the light source as a balanced whole, while the shade, the focal point of the design, leans completely to one side. NMB stands for “nghiêng một bên”, which means “leaning to one side” in Vietnamese.

This asymmetry does not unsettle the lamp. The tilted shade and the upright stem support each other, creating an interesting accent on a calm, “safe” overall form.

One simple tilt is enough to give the lamp a character of its own.

MATERIALS & LIGHTING IN THE SPACE

The shade is hand-woven from rattan and bamboo, and a frosted glass bulb (E27, 3000K warm light) sits at the top of the stem as the light source. The stem and the flared base are made of stainless steel with a bright silver chrome finish.

Thanks to the lean, the lighting effect of the lamp changes and shows itself more clearly.

In a living room or beside a reading chair, NMB works as a decorative accent that brings a refined, off-balance note into a balanced space.

Woven bamboo, made in Vietnam

Woven bamboo is a familiar material in Vietnamese craft, valued for its natural texture and its light, open structure.

The shade, stem and base of the NMB lamp are made and assembled at Hilykan Factory in Vietnam.

NMB lamp in the living space

In a living room corner or beside a reading chair, the NMB lamp brings a quiet asymmetry into the room, its leaning shade drawing the eye even when switched off.

Switched on, the frosted glass bulb lights the woven shade, and the lean makes the lighting effect easier to see.

Light through woven bamboo

The woven structure of the shade is made of many small openings, so the light is not simply blocked but shaped by the weave.

Seen from different sides, the leaning shade shows a different outline, and the lamp changes character as you move around it.

Pairing NMB with your interior

The natural texture of woven bamboo pairs easily with wood, linen and calm, neutral walls.

Leave some open space around the lamp so the leaning shade can be seen in full.

Because NMB is a decorative accent rather than a main light, it works best next to other sources of general lighting in the room.

Caring for your NMB lamp

Always switch off and unplug the lamp before cleaning.

Dust the woven bamboo shade lightly with a soft, dry cloth.

Wipe the chrome stainless-steel stem and base with a soft, dry cloth.

About the woven bamboo

Bamboo is a natural material, so small differences in colour and weave between pieces are part of its character.
